One thing that clients always want to explore once they have the foundation set in their business is how to grow their list.

Growing your email list is definitely important however once you begin to grow the list you want to make sure you have a game plan in the works to nurture the list, communicate to those on the list and then sell to the list.

Our game plan at Get It Done Gals is to increase new leads, nurture them but also sell solutions to them AKA sales funnel.

To tell you the truth though it took us some time to be able to sell online solutions to our email list. We were nervous about being too pushy or forward in our marketing.

So in 2016 we performed an experiment with growing our email list and here are the results.

Our goal was to increase our email list to 10,000 in 2016. We actually did it in 8 months for FREE and here is how.

We used a brand new lead magnet and we used Facebook Ads to promote that free lead magnet via a landing page. Then we sent them through a series of nurture emails, information emails, up sells and other products that they may like. The funnel would take them a few weeks to go through.

The results were interesting because we had a growing list which was exciting but the part that we had to hone in on was the sales after they opted into our list.

First things first. How did we grow the list?

  1. Facebook Ad with a great hook {Image below}
  2. Sent them to a landing page to opt-in with their email to receive their free lead magnet {Image below}
  3. Thank you page with an up sell video to a $17 product that was on the topic of the free lead magnet {Image below}
  4. Email delivery of the free lead magnet and/or the $17 product
  5. Up sell video with another product for $67 {Image below}
  6. Follow up emails with more free valuable content and then other offerings of products that may support them in their business.

What do the numbers look like?

Let’s talk about the ad spend, list size and refunds.

One thing that was really important here is the amount of ad spend.

We went into this email list growth and sales funnel with the idea that we would cover ALL of the Facebook ad spend with our $17 product that we offered after everyone opt-ed in. As long as the $17 templates were selling we continued to spend on the ads while testing our target audiences and text.

Our sales funnels are set up for slow growth which means that we look at the long term investment of nurturing everyone on the list and continuing to sell them products that will help them in their business.

As far as list size goes, we believe in quality over quantity. Our goal was 10,000 because we knew from working out numbers that we needed to get to that number to hit our goals for an upcoming launch.

The #1 way to get quality leads is to hone in on your target audiences and refine your lead magnet.

Ok the reality in business is that there will be refunds. Our refund policy for the products in the sales funnel have a 100% guarantee so we did have a few refunds. The good news is that the feedback was good and they either already were implementing what the $17 product was delivering or it didn’t suit their industry.

The timeline

We started this sales funnel in January 2016

In January we spent the whole month brainstorming the lead magnet. We asked what would an ideal client be attracted to? What would they be looking for on social media? What did we already have in our arsenal of content that we could pull together and sell?

In February the lead magnet, first set of emails and the Facebook ad were ready to go. Testing began

In March, April we tested more, added the 2nd up sell video to our $67 product and refined our emails.

In May we started to see good results so we increased our ad spend as long as the $17 up sell continued to pay for the ads. We started to see an increase in the 2nd up sell offering for $67 so we were able to start making a little bit of revenue.

From June to August we really ramped up the Facebook ad spend and increased our email list by 1,000’s.

In September we launched our Savvy CEO School and invited everyone on the email list that we had worked on all year.

October on we have been nurturing the list offering webinars, training’s, free content, great blog articles and offering products that we have for sale.

After we reached our goal we….

Performed a list clean up to those who did not open our emails. Sent out a series of emails and if they did not respond they were deleted off the list. We ended up deleting 500 or so emails that were consistent non opens in the last 6 months or more.

It felt good to have a fresh clean warm list to be able to provide great content to.

Sidenote: we had no problem deleting those emails off of our list. We believe in quality not quantity!

We have the email list… now what the heck do we do with it?

  1. Surveyed them asking what they would like to receive from us
  2. Emailed educational blogs, articles
  3. Selling cycle for online products

The Details…

  1. Create a lead magnet that your ideal clients would love to scoop up
  2. Create an up sell video to let the new lead know that they can buy the full version of the lead magnet
